In-Terminal Services Begins Operations at Union Pacific’s New Santa Teresa Facility

On April 1, 2014, In-Terminal Services started terminal operations at Union Pacific’s new Santa Teresa Intermodal Ramp (STIR) in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. For the first time ever, New Mexico will have a key inland port, positioning the Santa Teresa/El Paso area as a strategic focal point for rail shipments in the southwestern United Sates. STIR is ideally located on the Union Pacific’s “Sunset Route” near El Paso, TX and the Mexico border, allowing Union Pacific to provide unmatched service to this growing market.

The new facility’s features include an annual lift capacity of 250,000 units, 8 automated gates, 1,266 container and trailer parking stalls, and refrigerated container and trailer refueling capability. The new Santa Teresa facility replaces the current Union Pacific intermodal terminal at El Paso, TX.

“We are determined to exceed Union Pacific’s expectations for providing terminal services at the new STIR terminal, and we are excited about the growth possibilities at this key strategic focal point for rail shipments,” said Ron Teague, In-Terminal Services Senior Vice President Intermodal Operations.
